Heartland farmers power the nation.
About Farmers for A FAIR DEAL
Families in America’s Heartland face a double crisis: crop prices fall year after year as consumer energy costs are climbing sharply. The situation does not only competitively disadvantage farmers, businesses, and rural communities in the Midwest, but this economic strain undermines the traditional values that have always powered our nation.
Farmers for a Fair Deal brings together farmers, working families, and local innovators to push for common-sense agriculture, energy, and infrastructure solutions that put America first and strengthen the communities that feed and fuel the country.
Our Priorities
-
We must strengthen and expand our energy infrastructure. Private investment into our power grid – which includes thousands of farmers and rural electric co-ops that fuel our nation’s prosperity – will bolster Midwestern industries, working families, and rural communities. This means lowering rates for farmers and families, creating more jobs, and driving more investment into the heartland. Today’s energy affordability crisis requires an all-the-above energy resource approach. After all, energy is just energy, so let’s get as much of it online as we can to bring down consumer costs, create jobs, and bolster our nation’s resiliency. A modernized grid levels the playing field for the small farmer and working family.
-
The Midwest powers America. Policies should ensure that federal fuel incentives and private energy capital reinvests in those same heartland communities that support industry. Local energy investment strengthens farmers as well as the critical infrastructure that supports those farmers, the fuel industries they supply, and the hardworking communities that form the backbone of America. At a time when commodity prices are dropping and consumer costs are soaring, a reinvestment mechanism that directs private capital to rural communities will improve capability and affordability for both heartland industries and the families they serve.
-
Family farms are the heartbeat of America. No one better represents the American spirit and ideal. Yet, small farms are continually sidelined and locked out of the marketplace. Farmers for a Fair Deal works to ensure that the small farmer gets his fair share of the value being created through federal policymaking as well as national and international market development. Ignoring our small farms risks selling out the very soul of our country.
